Summer in the Dominican Republic runs from June through August and falls squarely in the hurricane season window (June 1 – November 30). Don't let that scare you — the vast majority of summer days are sunny and hot, with brief afternoon rain showers that cool things off before clearing for warm evenings. Statistically, the DR receives a direct hurricane hit only once every 10–15 years, and June–August is far less active than the September–October peak.

This is prime time for water sports enthusiasts. Ocean temperatures hit their annual peak at 82–84°F, making swimming, snorkeling, and diving incredibly comfortable. Cabarete becomes the kiteboarding capital of the Caribbean with consistent trade winds from June through September, drawing athletes from around the world to its famous beach breaks.

The July Merengue Festival in Santo Domingo is one of the DR's premier cultural events, with world-class musicians performing along the Malecón for two weeks.
